Tree species composition in Ilha Grande, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Abstract In the present study a specific and comprehensive analysis of arboreal flora Ilha Grande, located in municipality Angra dos Reis, on southern coast state Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is presented. Unpublished data contributions from studies already carried out at site that investigated issues related to composition richness tree species, degree threat, endemism history occupation and/or changes land use were gathered analyzed. This part PPBio Mata Atlântica – Programa Pesquisa em Biodiversidade (Biodiversity Research Program) which, through phytosociological inventories component, has been contributing, since 2010, increase floristic knowledge Grande. The inventory identified 509 belonging 220 genera 74 families. Of these, 34 species categorized as threatened, two which are critically endangered, 18 endangered 14 vulnerable. 53 exotic indicated. results presented here reinforce importance these indispensable tools for construction strategies actions conservation, restoration management diversity context Atlantic Forest.
